ValleyCats help rebuild youth fields

The Tri-City ValleyCats are pitching in to help rebuild four baseball fields in just 24 hours.

Crews are working on fields in South Colonie, Cambridge, Coxsackie’s, and here in Waterford, where flooding last year left severe damage.

By the end of the day, Garrett field in Waterford will get new sod on their infield, a new home plate, pitcher's mound, and much more.

 

ValleyCats begin '4 in 24' Youth Field Renovations

TROY - On Friday, April 13, the Tri-City ValleyCats will begin their Community Grounds Crew Program.

The four selected little league fields will have new sod placed in their in-field as well as having their pitchers mound and homeplate areas re-built. All work on the four fields is expected to be completed in 24 hours.

The selected Little Leagues are Waterford Little League, South Colonie Youth Baseball, Coxsackie Little League, and Cambridge Valley Athletic Association.

Renovation on each field will begin at 6a amd willalso include straightening of the baselines and making sure field dimensions are correct.

Mission: Military Morale

TROY - Mission : Military Morale has been set up to provide care packages for members of the military who are deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Currently Redeeming Love Church is currently accepting donations to include in these care packages.

10th Annual Electronics Recycling Day

Capital Region residents and businesses with unwanted electronic equipment can recycle it in an environmentally friendly way.

The 10th Annual Electronics Recycling Day will be held on Saturday, April 21 at Taft Furniture in Colonie.

The recycling day is being held in honor of Earth Day and people and businesses are invited to recycle used TV’s, computers, cell phones, VCR’s and other unwanted electronic equipment.

Last year, over 4,000 cars lined up to recycle unwanted electronics and over 250 tons of electronic equipment was recovered and recycled instead of going to landfills. The equipment filled up 20 tractor trailers.

NewsChannel 13, participating municipalities and other sponsors will host the event that will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Take Back the Night to raise awareness of sexual violence

Take Back the Night to raise awareness of sexual violence

The 31st annual Take Back the Night rally and march will take place on Thursday, April 26 beginning with a pre-rally gathering of community agencies at the College of Saint Rose. The pre-rally will begin at 4 p.m.

The Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center and The College of Saint Rose will sponsor the event. Immediately following the rally, participants will march through the streets of Albany and will meet back at the college to hear survivors speak and a candlelight vigil will be held.

Sexual assault survivors will speak about their experiences and local non-profit and health agencies will staff informational tables during the pre-rally. There will also be music and art at the event.

Take Back the Night is an international event that has been happening around the world since 1976. It is held to help increase awareness and educate the community on sexual violence and violent crime.

Cohoes Heritage Days

COHOES – Cohoes Heritage Days will be held from May 18-20.

There will be a variety of activities, exhibits, lectures, as well as the Founder’s Day 15K Run.

Events will be held all over Cohoes from the Van Schaick Mansion to historic Downtown Cohoes.

Cohoes Spring Clean-up and Electronic Recycling Day

COHOES – The City of Cohoes will be hosting a Spring Clean-up and Electronic Recycling Day in Lansing Park on May 20.

Also on that day, the Van Schaick fifth grade class will holding a bottle and can drive. The proceeds of the bottle and can drive will benefit their end of the year field trip.

Proof of residence status will be required.

All passenger vehicles will be allowed in at no cost. Pick-up trucks, vehicles with trailers and U-Haul’s will be charged an additional fee.
