Make A Wish seeks past Wish Kids

To mark their 25th Anniversary, MAke-A-Wish of Northeastern New York is looking for faces and stories from some of the 1,200 wishes that it has granted since 1987.

Through the "Welcome Back Wishes" campaign, the chapter is looking fro former wish children to be highlighted in its newsletter and on a website gallery.

Make-A-Wish is looking for pictures of children on their wish experience as well as some recent photos. They would also like some information on what has happened in the childs life since theri wish was granted.

If you or your child has had a wish granted through the local chapter, please contact the Make-A-Wish office, 518-782-4673.

Annual Albany Kidney Walk and 5K to take place June 10

The Annual Albany Kidney Walk and 5K will take place on Sunday, June 10 at the University at Albany.

The Northeast Kidney Foundation will host the event that will begin with the run registration at 7:30 a.m. The run kicks off at 8:30 a.m. and walk registration is at 9 a.m. The walk will begin at 11 a.m.

The walk and run will take place at the University of Albany Dutch Quad Field and they are designed to raise awareness and funds for community programs like free kidney disease screenings, patient assistance programs, public education and healthcare advocacy.

FASNY launches recruitment campaign

ALBANY -  The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York is launching a brand new recruitment advertising campaign today to help recruit 15,000 new volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel across New York State.

The campain will feature real life vlounteer firefighters in a series of "Why I Volunteer" videos and radio spots. The two firefighters were chosen in a statewide casting call.

Jeff Burkhart, of Oriskany, and Jessie Roland-Bystrak, of East Aurora will showcase their efforts to protect others by puttign their own lives on the line.

Cohoes Farmers Market opens

COHOES - On Friday, June 1, the Cohoes Farers Market will once again open for the summer season.

The market will be held at the municipal lot on Historic Remsen Street in downtown.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 4p with Mayor McDonald.

7The market will be open every Friday from 4-7p. The market will remain open until October 5.

Free Ice Cream for those who serve

ALBANY - The Coldstone Creamery in Stuyvesant Plaza will be giving out free ice cream to those who serve this weekend.

This offer is extended to veterans, firefighters, police officers, and current members of the military.

The only requirement is you must have valid ID.

Albany County Executive to meet with seniors in honor of Older Americans Month

Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy will be at the Albany County Department for Aging on Tuesday, May 29 to honor Older Americans Month.

McCoy will be at the department at 10:00 a.m. and he will meet with senior citizens who graduated from the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

 The program is a community service and work based training program for older workers.

Third Annual Foster Car Awareness Walk to take place May 22

May is National Foster Care Month and Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy will be at the Crossings in Colonie on Tuesday, May 22 for the Third Annual Foster Care Awareness Walk.

The public is invited to join McCoy for the walk, which is sponsored by the Albany County Department of Children Youth and Families.

According to Albany County, there are currently 160 children in the county foster care system. The county is looking for more foster and adoptive families and the public will be able to meet some of the kids and families at the walk.

The walk will be held in the pavilion by the Ciccotti Center.
