Free cancer screenings for residents in local areas

The Cancer Services Programs of Albany and Rensselaer counties teamed up with American Cancer Society and St. Peter’s Health Care Partners to provide free cancer screenings to men and women in the local community.

The free screenings offered will be mammograms and Pap tests for women ages 40 and older and colorectal screenings for men and women ages 50 and older.

There will also be free screenings for uninsured residents provided through the Cancer Services Program year round at St. Peter’s Health Partners.

If you live in Albany or Rensselaer County and would like to make an appointment, please call 454-4013. If you live outside Albany County, please call the Cancer Services Program at 1-866-422-CANCER (2262) to find a screening near you. 

Beauty and the Beast to come to Proctors

Beauty and the Beast to come to Proctors

The Mainstage at Proctors will welcome “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” beginning May 15 through May 20.

The classic love story will come to life onstage with songs like “Be Our Guest,” “Change In Me,” and “Gaston.” The show is based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film and the show has been seen by 35 million people around the world.

The show runs for 130 minutes with one intermission. Ticket prices range from $20 to $90. Click here for more information on the show.

2012 Berkshire Idol Finals

PITTSFIELD - On Saturday, May 12, the finals of the 2012 Berkshire Idol will be held at Barrington Stage Company.

This year's finals will feature live audience voting following each contestant's performance.

there will be speacial performances from last years winners.

All proceeds go to benefit the Family Life Support Center.

Ride to benefit Blue Friday New York to take place Saturday

Ride to benefit Blue Friday New York to take place Saturday

The Blue Friday New York Fallen Officer Memorial Ride will take place on Saturday, May 5 and will cover many areas in the Capital Region.

The ride will go over 94 miles and will kick off from Spizie’s Harley-Davidson on Central Avenue in Colonie at 11:30 a.m. The riders will then go to Herba Motors on Route 30 in Amsterdam, followed by Adirondack Harley-Davidson on Route 29 in Amsterdam.

Registration will be available at all three locations and will begin at 9 a.m. The ride will travel through Albany, Schenectady, Montgomery, Fulton and Saratoga counties and will end at the Bethlehem Town Park on Route 32 in Bethlehem at 2 p.m.

Donations for the ride will be $25/driver and $15/rider and will include a lunch at the Bethlehem Town Park. Anyone can attend the lunch for a $10 donation and live music will be provided by Kevin and Katie McKrell and others.

Albany, New York – Mayor Jerry Jennings and the City of Albany are pleased to announce the musical line up for the 2012 Alive at Five Concert Series. These concerts are presented FREE and open to the public on Thursday evenings from 5-8pm at the Albany Riverfront Park amphitheatre at the Corning Preserve. Food and beverage vendors complete the scene for a great way to start your weekend.

 

All concerts will be held at Albany Riverfront Park*.

Art Institute to host craft beer event

ALBANY - On Saturday, May 12, the Albany Institute of History and Art will be osting a craft beer festival featuring some of the finest local brews.

Guests  are invited to browse from table to table sampling all of th efinest craft beer the area has to offer, as well as an assortment of food, and a chance to talk to local brewers.

There will be a collection of beer signs and advertising that is in the museums collection.

Featured guests will be Brewery Ommegang, Albany Pump Station, Chatham Brewery, and Keegan Ales.

Special Guest Bill Schaefer of F & M Brewing will speak about his familys history with brewing.

Tickets are $50, or $45 for museum members.

The festival runs from 4-7p.

The Greatest Show on Earth has arrived

The Greatest Show on Earth arrived today with the ceremonial animal march. Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus, now in their 141st year,  will be performing their newest show Fully Charged at the Times Union Center from May 2-6.

There is a special all access pre-show party. Everyone is invited to the arena floor one hour before showtime to meet the performers and animals.

You will even get the opportunity to see an elephant paint, then enter for your chance to win one of these masterpieces.
