Free movie night at Cohoes Public Library

The Cohoes Public Library, located on 169 Mohawk St., will welcome the summer solstice with a free movie night at 6 p.m. on June 20.

The event will begin with Bugs Bunny and a classic Looney Tunes cartoon. The main feature will be, “Duck Soup” starring Groucho Marx.

Admission is free and children must be accompanied by an adult.

FEMA to hold informational meetings on flood maps

FEMA is letting Albany County residents know that two informational meetings on new flood maps being developed by state and federal officials will take place on Tuesday, June 19 and Wednesday, June 20.

State and Federal representatives will be available to help residents identify flood risks and to discuss options with property owners for risk reduction and flood insurance.

Residents will be able to stop in at any time during open house hours, 4 to 8 p.m. and to meet individually with FEMA or state officials. Below are dates and times from FEMA:

OGS annouced At The Plaza Summer Series

ALBANY - The New York State Office of General Services has announced the ever popular series of free events that take place every summer at the Empire STate Plaza.

As always on July 4, Price Chopper will be presenting a holiday tradition. The fun last all day with music, food, activities, and Tommy James and the Shondell's. Of course when the sun goes down, the fireworks light up the sky.

On Sunday, July 8, GE presents kids day, featuring activites, exotic animals, Care Bears, roaming railroad, and Radio Disney.

On Wednesday, July 25, Open Air Cinema will be presenting Puss In Boots.

On Saturday, August 4, from 12-7p, McDonalds will be presenting African American Family Day. The day will be filled with lots of song, dancing, music, art, and family oriented activities.

On Wednesday, August 8, at begining at 7:30p, Open Air Cinema will be showing Star Trek.

Hands-Only CPR Mobile Tour to come to Capital Region

Hands-Only CPR Mobile Tour to come to Capital Region

The Hands-Only CPR Mobile Tour will be across the street from the Capitol on Monday, June 11 and at the Harriman Campus in Albany on Tuesday, June 12. People will be able to learn CPR in an interactive 15 minute training session.

Training will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 11 and 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 12.

Thruway Authority and Canal Corporation to hold auction

Thruway Authority and Canal Corporation to hold auction

A public equipment auction will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at the Thruway Authority’s Albany Division Facility in Selkirk. The auction will be held by the New York State Thruway Authority and Canal Corporation.

The auction will open at 9 a.m. and will include dozens of passenger cars, pickups and other larger trucks, construction equipment and miscellaneous parts and supplies for public sale.  Bidders will also find outboard boat motors, electronic equipment, arrow-board signs and vehicle light bars.

People who attend the auction will also be able to find unusual and unique items including a 1993 International 3700 Blue Bus and a 1991 Ford Model 555C Backhoe & Loader.

The auction will take place at Exit 22, Route 144 (River Road).

Price Chopper hosts House of BBQ Class

LATHAM - On Wednesday, June 13, Price Chopper is sposonsoring a grilling class with Certified Angus Beef Executive Chef Michael Ollier.

Registration is $10 per person and includes recipes, samples and door prizes. Deadline for registration is June 11.

Annual Albany Kidney Walk and 5K to take place June 10

The Annual Albany Kidney Walk and 5K will take place on Sunday, June 10 at the University at Albany.

The Northeast Kidney Foundation will host the event that will begin with the run registration at 7:30 a.m. The run kicks off at 8:30 a.m. and walk registration is at 9 a.m. The walk will begin at 11 a.m.

The walk and run will take place at the University of Albany Dutch Quad Field and they are designed to raise awareness and funds for community programs like free kidney disease screenings, patient assistance programs, public education and healthcare advocacy.
