NY crops expected to rise over 2011 despite heat | News

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The USDA says crop production in 2012 for New York is expected to be mostly higher compared to last year.

The news comes despite the hot and dry summer that has affected growers around the state.  

King Whetstone, director of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, says forecasts for soybeans, oats, and dry beans are expected to be higher while winter wheat and corn for grain are expected to be lower than 2011.

Those forecasts assume normal growing conditions for the rest of the season.
